"It's hazardous to remain trapped in a victim mentality," Selena Gomez expressed her introspection regarding her mental well-being and the scrutiny of her public image.
There are several celebrities who have had a greater impact on the entire entertainment industry than Selena Gomez, a child star turned pop star and later a serious actress known as Mabel Mora in Only Murders in the Building. However, she has become a widely recognized name for over a decade, starting with her role as Alex Russo in the television series Wizards of Waverly Place on Disney Channel, which began in 2007.
Looking at her life, most people might think that she has achieved everything anyone could hope for, but Gomez has not been exempt from various problems. Not only did she fail to enjoy a normal childhood, but she also experienced numerous heartbreaks, mental and physical disorders, as well as long breaks in her busy career.
Selena Gomez has expressed her determination not to allow negative experiences to overshadow her present. In a 2020 interview with NPR's Lulu Garcia-Navarro, she emphasized her refusal to dwell on painful aspects of her life with regret or significant attention.
Gomez stated,
"No, because I've discovered strength within myself. It's risky to remain trapped in a victim mindset. And I'm not trying to be disrespectful, but I do believe I was subjected to certain forms of abuse..."
During the interview, Gomez also referred to this as "emotional abuse" and shared her ability to navigate through it gracefully.
Dealing with a significant level of fame while facing multiple health issues and personal crises is a tremendous challenge. In an interview, Selena Gomez discussed the emotional abuse she endured and how she coped with it.
She expressed,
"I had to find a way to comprehend it as an adult and understand the choices I was making. Although I don't want to constantly talk about this for the rest of my life, I take pride in feeling stronger than ever and navigating through it with as much grace as possible."
Additionally, Selena Gomez shared her reasons for publicly addressing her challenges, stating that her life story would be told regardless, and she prefers to be the one to share it.
She explained,
"I have chosen to speak up about the trials and tribulations in my life because others were going to narrate it for me. With the fast-paced nature of everything today, I wouldn't have had a choice. Most of the time, the narratives are untrue or exaggerated versions of the truth. I want to have the freedom to tell my story the way I want to. These experiences did happen, and I won't deny them or pretend to be happy when they were actually some of the worst moments of my life."
Currently, Selena Gomez is reportedly preparing to work on a Spanish-language film.
